There aren’t many better folk guitarists around than Paul Tasker, however subjective such a statement might be. He’s often compared to his great hero and influence Bert Jansch or named ‘one of thé guitarists of his generation’.
Last week brought some terrible news, including the passing of Leonard Cohen; the writer of Hallelujah, probably one of the most covered songs in history, and so many other magnificent songs. It's difficult to find a musician who hasn't been influenced by Cohen. Doghouse Roses singer Iona Macdonald wrote about her admiration for him.
Yesterday, one of my biggest influences as a writing journalist passed away. Martin Bril was a great writer and columnist; chronicles about everyday happenings were his specialty. Creating something beautiful out of basically nothing, that’s what life is all about, Bril taught me.
