I don’t know what to say. Actually I do, but I just thought that would be a cool sentence to start with. Of course I’ve got something to say. Even after three intensive days of work at the Lowlands festival last weekend. I saw a lot of great bands, got to talk to some brilliant musicians, and – last but most certainly not least – got to meet up with Reinier Rietveld in the press tent.

Reinier was the audio technician who not only did a 16-track recording of this Onder Invloed session, but also mixed it and carried it with him on cd at Biddinhuizen for the entire day. When I came home in Utrecht after seeing – amongst others – Lucky Fonz III, GEM, Jamie Lidell, Bong-Ra and dEUS playing like there would be no tomorrow, I thought there wasn’t anything left that could knock me off my feet for a long, long time.

And then, there it was.

Hidden in the side pocket of my backpack: a cd with ‘Charlie – Onder Invloed, Parade Utrecht 2008′ written on it. I’m going to sue iTunes for not automatically labeling the cd ‘one of the best sounds coming from Rotterdam in 2008′. I’m going to lose in court, I know, but what the heck. It’ll keep me occupied.

Anyway, Reinier told me it’s just a simply done audio mix, but then I would love to hear him doing a more complicated one. Because this already sounds very, very nice. I just keep praising the performances on Onder Invloed and all the people helping me, but my mother taught me not to lie. So, under her influence, I’m going to tell the bloody truth about the session with Charlie Dée…

It’s very beautiful.
